About Chouinard Studios

A life-long love affair with stone and steel

Tim Chouinard has been designing and building with stone and granite for more than forty years.

Working all across the North Shore and Cape Ann areas of Massachusetts, Tim has built a stunning portfolio of unique outdoor environments for his residential clients. These custom spaces combine patios, walls, fire pits, and decorative elements to create inviting and functional outdoor spaces that change the way people enjoy their homes.

In addition to his love of working with stone and granite, he has also long been fascinated with antiques and industrial salvage. Over the years, he has traveled to auctions all over the eastern half of the country acquiring an eclectic collection of gears, wheels, implements, turn-of-the-century machinery, and other finds like beautiful copper kettles decommissioned from South Boston's Necco Candy Company and antique train signal lights.

The hands of an engineer and the eye of an artist

With Chouinard Studios, Tim brings a new kind of beauty to gardens, outdoor landscapes, and interior spaces. His sculptures and art objects are one-of-a-kind creations that combine his craftsmanship with an inspired artistic vision.

Each piece tells its own story through the materials that went into creating it—architectural granite reclaimed from Boston Harbor, a one-hundred-year-old gear from a Maine paper mill, a worn beam from a turn-of-the-century barn, the leather and brass of an old oxen yoke, light-catching Blenko Dalle de Verre glass. His designs recast objects in new roles, sometimes simply giving an old tool a new job, and sometimes transforming utilitarian items into whimsical art.
